We have an opportunity for a fabulous Optometrist in a well-established private practice in Albuquerque, NM!

We’re seeking someone caring, passionate about the industry & patient care, and detail-oriented.

This opportunity would suit someone with an interest in specialty contact lenses, myopia management, and diagnosing and treating dry eye disease. The owner specializes in pediatric optometry and is willing to mentor anyone wanting to learn more about it.

The practice is medically oriented and caters to patients of all ages, so there will be lots of variety to keep your skills fine-tuned!​​

The position provides health insurance and a bonus structure on top of base pay.

Job Description
Optometrist responsibilities include analyzing vision tests, identifying sight problems, and prescribing corrective lenses and eyeglasses. To be successful in this role, you should have attention to detail and be able to treat all kinds of patients with kindness and discretion, from young children to the elderly.

To qualify for this role, you must be state-licensed, or in the process of obtaining your license, and possess in-depth knowledge of eye-related disorders, conditions, and treatment. The ideal candidate will be customer service-oriented with excellent analytical and communication skills.

This job requires candidates to be able to perform duties that include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Document history including complaint and relevant symptoms, ocular health, medication usage, medical and family history, current vision aide if applicable, and any other pertinent data
  • Examine eyes using observation, pharmaceutical agents, and instruments to determine visual perception, acuity, coordination, and focus
  • Based on the exam, diagnose diseases and anomalies such as color blindness or glaucoma
  • Clearly document diagnosis and treatment plan, including referrals, therapeutic prescriptions, and long-term medical management, in patients’ charts
  • Handle eyecare emergencies in the most appropriate manner for each situation through in-office treatment or outside referrals to other healthcare providers
  • Evaluate patients for other health issues such as diabetes, and refer to other healthcare providers as necessary
  • Prescribe corrective lenses and fit contact lenses
  • Prescribe medications (depending on state laws and individual certifications and/or licensing)
  • Build strong doctor-patient relationships
  • Promote eye health by teaching patients about proper eye care techniques
  • Maintain accurate medical files for all patients
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of records and protected health information as per HIPAA and compliance laws


Position Requirements

  • Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree
  • Must possess a state-issued license for the practice of optometry
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
  • In-depth knowledge of eye-related disorders and conditions
  • Patient service-oriented with excellent analytical skills
